Honda Australia will finally start selling diesel versions of the CR-V sourced from Swindon, England in February. The British models supplement Thai built petrol versions launched about a year ago.

Local online publication GoAutoNews said the diesels are available in two specifications and come standard with an electronic four-wheel-drive system.

Both manual and automatic transmissions are offered. Detail differences compared with the Thai petrol models include headlights with LED daytime running lights and a matt grey grille and a slightly different design of tail light.

Inside, there are different trims and materials, chrome and black plastic replacing the woodgrain of the petrol variants and different leather trim in the top DTi-L specification model.

GoAutoNews said the A$38,290 opening price undercuts similarly specified diesel competitors such as the Ford Kuga Trend, Mazda CX-5 Maxx Sport, Mitsubishi Outlander LS and the Toyota RAV4 GXL.

Honda Australia also supplements its Thai-built petrol Civic sedans with petrol and diesel hatchbacks imported from Swindon.

Honda New Zealand also imports the hatchback from England, branding it the Euro Civic, but does not sell the diesel.
