Japanese tyre maker Bridgestone’s 60%-owned Australian unit plans to lock out workers at its Salisbury tyre manufacturing plant in South Australia from August 12 to 27 as it seeks to gain leverage in an ongoing labour dispute, Dow Jones said.

In a statement cited by Dow Jones, Bridgestone Australia said it has the necessary tyre inventory to ensure that supplies to vehicle manufacturers won’t be disrupted.
Both General Motors [Holden] and Mitsubishi Motors have vehicle manufacturing operations in South Australia, the news agency noted.
Dow Jones said Bridgestone has been in negotiations with labour unions since March in a bid to win support for planned changes aimed at boosting productivity and reducing costs but the tyre maker said it can’t operate under the terms proposed by the unions.
