Volkswagen group premium brand Audi AG sold boosted global sales 5.3% year on year in October to 158,750 cars.

Notable rises were in North America (+10.2%) and China (+14.5%) though sales in Europe were down 1.6%.

Year to date sales were 1.3% down at 1,539,500.

"After our good start to the fourth quarter, we intend to sustain this trend over the next few months despite continuing challenging conditions," said sales and marketing chief Bram Schot.

YTD sales in China were down 3% to 472,498 though October sales set a record for the month. The company's sales began to rebound there from May after settling a dispute with dealers over plans to open a second distribution channel. Its sales were ahead of rival Mercedes-Benz in October.

US sales rose for the 82nd consecutive month, by 9.6% to 19,425 cars. Canada sales were up 11.3% to 3,063 cars. YTD, half of US sales were Q SUV model.
