Ronnie Frost, Institutional Relations director of VW Argentina, said that the investment was yet to be defined and it was not sure that the funds would go to Argentina. If Argentina captures the investment, the expansion of the plant in Cordoba and the increased gearboxes output will create 500 new jobs, Frost added.

Two plants of VW in Germany are also bidding to receive the investment, the report said.

In 2004, the VW plant in Cordoba produced 520,000 gearboxes, up from 440,000 units in 2003.
