Peugeot says it is adding production capacity for its recently launched 301 sedan model as sales exceed projections.

Peugeot brand CEO Maxime Picat told delegates at the ANE Congress in Paris that sales of the car are ‘very promising’ and he emphasised that sedans are strong sellers in many markets around the world. “Our projections are far above – 42% above – what we were forecasting and we are having to increase production capacity at Vigo, in Spain,” he said.

Picat also highlighted the importance of the Chinese market for the 301 model, which was shown at the Shanghai Motor Show in April.

The car will also be made at a new factory in Wuhan. “That will take production of the 301 to 160,000 units in 2014,” Picat said. “It is a very good example of our internationalisation strategy.”
