Allison Transmission says it supports new standards issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Administration (NHTSA), regarding fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions for medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

The Phase 2 programme is expected to lower carbon dioxide emissions by around 1.1bn tonnes, save vehicle owners fuel costs of approximately US$170bn and reduce oil consumption by up to 2bn barrels during the lifetime of the vehicles sold under the programme. Phase 2 will also use emerging technologies which are not yet in widespread use.
