“As of 2 November no spare part that is not bought in its originating country will be allowed into Algeria,” said El Hachemi Djaaboub during a meeting with ministers in the capital Algiers, a national agency reported, according to AFP.

The measure is an attempt to fight “against the importing of counterfeit spare parts, especially those from Asian countries,” the minister said.

In 2008 Algeria’s imports of automobile parts reached a value of $291m. The same year, $5.7m of counterfeit car parts were seized in the country.
