Russia’s Association of European Businesses (AEB) is cautiously welcoming figures showing new passenger cars and LCV sales rose 6.9% last month, but which were still slightly less than the increase in March.
In April 2017, sales rose by 8,324 sold units, totalling 129,476 cars, according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC). Numbers from January—April show 451,945 cars were sold.

The news is a dip from March, which saw sales rise 9.4% and Russia post its first quarterly positive movement in more than four years, but is nonetheless welcome after previous significant falls.
“Market sales in April increased on a year-on-year basis, at the same time falling short of the volume achieved in March,” said AEB AMC chairman, Joerg Schreiber.
“We are not dealing with a healthy seasonality yet, which reminds us of how fragile the current cautious recovery still is. Nevertheless, April’s sales result is a another step forward in the right direction.”
AvtoVAZ sales of its Lada brand rose 7% in April to 26,300, while figures from January to April show an increase of 8% to 87,800.
