Volkswagen Group delivered 949,800 vehicles worldwide in October, a year on year boost to sales of 12.2%.

China sales rose 6.6% despite a shrinking overall market while Europe volume rose 25.5% with Germany soaring 41.5% though this compared with the very weak October 2018 sales as a result of the WLTP change.

Sales chief Christian Dahlheim said: “We outperformed the market in all core regions and once again substantially expanded our market shares, especially in China, our largest market. It is also pleasing to see that we made noticeable gains in our home market of Germany over and above making up the ground lost a year ago as a result of WLTP.”

VW delivered 370,700 vehicles in Europe with western Europe sales up 30.7% to 299,600 and Germany accounting for 112,400 units.

Russian sales rose 3.7% to 22,100.

North America overall volume shrank but VW Group bucked the trend with a small 0.9% rise to 80,400 vehicles sold.
