Land Rover’s Discovery is the latest Jaguar Land Rover model line to benefit from the automaker’s roll out of in house produced Ingenium I4 engines, replacing older, mostly bought-in powerplants.
In this case, the 300PS Ingenium petrol motor with Continuously Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) and twin-scroll turbocharger with ceramic bearings is now available in the ‘Disco’ line. The new engine produces 400Nm of torque and CO2 emissions are from 222g/km.
Other 2018 model year updates include the company’s Interactive Driver Display TFT instrument cluster first seen in the Jaguar XJ line and top Range Rover variants. In its latest iteration, the high resolution panel provides ‘contemporary’ graphics that create the impression of 3D surfaces and allow the driver to personalise the visual display around the two main dials. It’s similar to the cluster now optional on most Audi models and a growing number of VWs.
All Discovery models have Touch Pro infotainment with JLR’s 10-inch touchscreen interface on the centre console. Digital connectivity is enhanced with the introduction of 4G WiFi, providing connection for up to eight mobile devices.
JLR’s second generation head-up display also provides a full colour display and wider functionality, projecting 4×4 information and improved navigation displays onto the windscreen. Cabin Air Ionisation is now available for Discovery for the first time, delivering improved interior air quality.
Advanced Tow Assist technology provides responsive trajectory lines on the rear camera feed to the central touchscreen. This allows the driver to steer the vehicle using the rotary Terrain Response 2 controller on the centre console while the system calculates the steering inputs.
