GM Uzbekistan, a joint venture of GM and Uzbek automaker Uzavtoprom, plans to build a US$37.3m press shop in 2009-2010.
An official with Uzavtoprom told Prime-Tass that the project is expected to be implemented in two stages. By the end of 2009, the company plans to build a US$27.3m workshop with an annual production capacity of 1.37m vehicle body panels. In 2010, the company plans to install a US$10m production line at the workshop with an annual capacity of 1m panels.
The new facility will increase the company’s annual production of vehicle body panels to 9.7m units from 7.3m units currently, the report said.
GM Uzbekistan plans to finance the project with its own funds, the report added.
