The pace of growth picked up again in May after slowing in April, with passenger vehicle sales rising by 7.3% year on year to 11,690 units after declining in the previous month which CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez attributed to fewer working days this April due to the Easter holidays.

Commercial vehicle sales continued to drive the overall market forward, however, with a 22% rise to 23,779 units last month from 19,424 units a year earlier.

Total vehicle sales in the first five months of the year rose by almost 18% to 158,533 units, from 134,487 units in the same period of last year. Sales of passenger vehicles were up by just 5.7% at 53,503 units in this period, while commercial vehicles sales rose by over 25% to 105,030 units.

Toyota reported an almost 20% rise in sales to 69,231 units in the first five months of the year, followed by Mitsubishi Motors with a rise of close to 15% 28,262 units.
