Truck maker Navistar International Corp. on Monday predicted a larger-than-expected loss for the first quarter of 2004 due to holiday production shutdowns that would affect operations, Reuters reported.

The news agency said that, even though the company reaffirmed its previously lowered 2004 profit forecast of $US2.02 a share, it said it anticipated a first-quarter loss of 40 cents to 50 cents a share, compared with a quarterly loss of $1.49 a year earlier.


According to Reuters Research, analysts have been expecting the maker of International trucks to report, on average, a quarterly loss of 35 cents a share and 2004 profit of $2.64.
