German automaker BMW is to embark upon a major redesign of its 7-series for model year 2002, reports Detroit News (19/7/00).

The new models are expected to adopt a more aggressive look, with a lower and wider profile similar to the latest 3-series, says the publication.

The V-8 engines currently used by the German car manufacturer are to be carried over with certain updates, with the firm expecting to install an advanced six-speed automatic transmission jointly developed with ZF.

The report says that the top-of-the-range 750iL is to be fitted with an all-new V-12 engine, with the new 7-series range set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of 2001, according to industry insiders.
