The website said Honda would inititally export 100 vehicles per month to Australia, but will gradually lift volumes to about 500 units. Up to 400 Fits will be shipped to New Zealand annually.

The model will most likely be called Jazz Down Under where, unlike the UK and Europe, the name has not been used before.

Honda New Zealand marketed the original City in the mid-1980s and the Fit will be the first true successor to that model the Honda Japan-owned subsidiary has offered.

That first City was sold as the Jazz in the UK and Europe – due to the use of City badging for entry-level Austin-Rover models.
