Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 13,348,942 vehicles, up 6.4% from like-2001’s pace.


In the US, vehicle makers were expected to produce 258,912 units last week, up 1.6% from the 254,828 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2002 US vehicle output totals an estimated 9,776,809 units, up 8.0% from the 9,052,617 vehicles built in like-2001.


Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 53,727, an 8.9% decrease from the 58,988 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,124,216 units, up 4.4% compared to the 2,034,228 vehicles produced in like-2001.


Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 35.3%; Ford Motor Co., 30.6%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.1%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.6%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.2%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.9%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 1.5%; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 0.9%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.7%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America Inc., 0.9%; and other manufacturers, 1.6%.
