Tata Engineering has begun negotiations with MG Rover to export its small Indica hatchback car to the UK, according to the Financial Express newspaper.

The paper said a four-person Rover team in India for talks would also visit Tata’s car manufacturing facilities and engineering research centre at Pune.
The Financial Express said that Tata Engineering plans to export the 1400cc Indica from mid-2003 for sale through MG Rover’s 250 UK dealers.
In the Rover range, the car will effectively replace the Metro-based 100 which went out of production in 1997. Rover’s current entry level car is a 1.1-litre version of the 25.
However, the Financial Express added, this will not be the small hatchback’s first export deal. Tata has been exporting the Indica since November last year to European markets including Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain.
