New light vehicle sales in Canada fell 1.1% in August from July, and dropped 1.2% from the year-earlier month, the Detroit News said, citing Statistics Canada.

The agency reportedly said the August sales decline came despite the continuation of incentives that helped boost sales in July and was “the smallest monthly change in 2003, a year during which sales have gone through major fluctuations.”

Sales in July were up 12.4% after sales in June fell 10.4% and preliminary figures from car makers indicate the number of new motor vehicles sold in September dropped 2% from August, the report said.
