Mega Motors, a special exhibition of some of the fastest road cars in the UK, will take place on Thursday 20 June at Donington Park. However these are fast cars with a difference; they are all owned and driven by disabled drivers.

The Mega Motors line-up is set to include a cross section of seriously fast vehicles: from a TVR Griffith 4.3 BV to a classic Jaguar E-type Roadster 1970, from a Grinnall Scorpion to a Porsche 911 (966) Targa 2002, from a spaced framed Nissan Micra Hot Rod racing car to a BMW 330Ci Sport, from a Porsche Boxter Triptronic, to a Fiat 131 Super Mirafiori, from an Alfa Romeo GTV6 3 litre classic coupe to an RUF Porsche 993 BTR, which boasts a top speed of 202 mph.

The collection of fast cars will be on show to offer inspiration to visitors who might have thought that a fast or sporty car would not be appropriate or suitable for adaptation. The message is clear – even the fastest high performance cars can be adapted for disabled drivers. Visitors to the Roadshow will be able to inspect these cars for themselves and will also have the opportunity to talk to their owners about the adaptations involved. Many owners also race their cars in rallies and race days in the UK and across Europe.

This special exhibition celebrates the Mobility Roadshow#;s return to Donington Park, a venue synonymous with speed. With the help of various motoring magazines and the national press, the organisers of this year#;s event launched a nationwide search to find the fastest adapted vehicles in the country. There was once a time when disabled drivers in the UK were associated with little blue trikes – things have certainly come a long way since then.

Continuing the speed theme, Race Marshall Steve Tarrant will be visiting the Roadshow, as a guest of honour, along with his new adapted Ford Focus in the livery of last year#;s world rally champion, Colin McRae.

In June 2000 Steve was marshalling at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, when a 1968 Lotus F1 car careered through the finish gantry and hit him at a speed of around 140mph. The accident left Steve an amputee, losing his right leg above the knee. He also suffered a severe compound fracture of the left leg, along with abdominal and head injuries. After more than three months in hospital and then 20 months of operations and intensive therapy, Steve got back in the driving seat for the first time in March this year.

The Mobility Roadshow is the world#;s largest outdoor mobility event and takes place at Donington Park on Thursday 20 – Saturday 22 June, open from 10.00 am daily. This is a charity event and entrance is free. The Mega Motors Exhibition is a one-day exhibition only on 20 June.
Visitors to the Mobility Roadshow are given the opportunity to test drive around 100 vehicles from all the major motor manufacturers, fitted with a variety of adaptations, on the Grand Prix circuit. There will also be around 200 exhibitors offering advice and information on all the latest mobility products and services.
