As part of the plan, production in Thailand of one-ton pick-up trucks will be expanded but Kee declined to provide other details of the planned investment, which will be revealed on Monday in Bangkok during a visit by Ford chairman and CEO Bill Ford, the news agency said.
Kee on Thursday told Dow Jones that local media reports putting the total value of the investment at more than 10 billion baht are “speculative.”
The news agency said the local reports claim Ford will double production of pick-ups in Thailand in line with a new global strategy to produce only one type of vehicle in each country, rather than duplicating facilities.
Kee told Dow Jones Auto Alliance currently has an annual capacity of 135,000 units, and is producing 80,000 completely-built-up units, of which 50,000 units are exported to 130 countries around the world.
The Thai plant produces Ford Everest sports utility vehicles, Ford Ranger one-ton pick-ups and Mazda Fighter one-ton pick-ups, Dow Jones said.
