BMW Group delivered 6.3% more BMW and Mini brand cars in September, compared with a year ago. The monthly sales figure of 102,600 units passed the 100,000 mark for the third time in the company’s history and for the year to the end of September, sales at 815,240, were up 1.2%.

BMW brand sales increased 5.3% year on year in September to 83,950 units but, for the year to end September, sales dipped 3.3% to 678,110 units “for reasons associated with model cycles”, according to BMW.

Michael Ganal, BMW sales and marketing head, said: “The positive sales trend of the third quarter confirms our 2003 estimation that a new sales record is also achievable for the BMW brand.”

September 2003 saw a monthly record for Mini with 18,650 models delivered, up 11.1 on September 2003. Mini sales to the end of September of 137,130 were up 30.8% compared with the same period in 2002.

For the first nine months of the year, BMW motorcycle sales declined 1.4% to 73,620 units.
