The company says integration of speakers into door panels and instrument panels will lead to better sound quality, reduced weight and better acoustics within the vehicle.

The claimed benefits of this new technology to the consumer include a comfortable environment with better sound quality and integrated speakers while vehicle makers will appreciate reduced weight and assembly complexity. Although other companies are also testing and developing technology similar to that of the flat panel speaker technology, Owens Corning says its technology is unique in that it will bridge the gap between revolutionary new loudspeakers and automotive application by building on its experience in acoustics and composite materials. The speakers are currently being tested and can be expected in new 2005 vehicles.
