Saab is planning to price aggressively in the UK market on its new 9-3 range. It is reported that the 9-3 will undercut its major rivals by as much as £1,600.
UK consumer publication Auto Express says the entry-level 9-3 Linear will cost £18,495 when it goes on sale in September – a £1,630 saving over a similarly specified BMW 318i and £1,365 less than an Audi A4 1.8T. The Arc, Vector and Aero form the rest of the 9-3 range. At £22,895, the flagship Aero gets a six-speed gearbox and a sports chassis.
Compared to its predecessor, the new 9-3 is more spacious, particularly for rear passengers, within the same overall length. Front and rear width is increased by 2.16 in. (55 mm) and the wheelbase is 2.8 in. (71 mm) longer.
Sales start in October 2002.
