In a sign that the semiconductor shortage crisis is worsening in the US, the White House is preparing to host a virtual meeting to discuss solutions to supply chain issues that are disrupting US industrial output, particularly in the automotive sector.
Reuters reports that Intel Corp Chief Executive Officer Pat Gelsinger is among attendees at a meeting being put together by President Joe Biden’s administration for April 12.

The meeting will include Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan as well as chipmakers and automakers.
The crisis began when the pandemic disrupted the semiconductor market last year, as automakers slashed their orders and chipmakers found a convenient alternative customer base in the shape of electronic goods and personal devices. However, since then, the automotive market has rebounded and a shortage of supply for automotive has emerged.
A coalition of automakers in the Alliance for Auto Innovation is also lobbying the Biden administration for financial help to boost semiconductor output in the US.
