Hyundai Motor on Tuesday unveiled the new futuristic-looking Staria 11-seater minibus, ahead of the launch of domestic sales later this week.

The new minibus replaces the existing Starex model and will be available in two variants, Staria and Staria Premium. It comes with either of two engines – a 2.2-litre diesel and a 3.5-litre liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) engine.

Hyundai said in a statement the Staria interior has a "simple and modest layout to highlight driver convenience and passenger comfort, while staying faithful to its original value as an MPV. The cruise ship-inspired interior delivers an open and unique atmosphere through its innovative design architecture. The vehicle's lower beltlines and panoramic windows create a spacious, stimulating environment for all passengers".

The automaker is looking to tap into growing demand for outdoor leisure activities due to the COVID pandemic. The vehicle is also available as a two seat cargo van.

Prices start at KRW27m (US$24,000), rising to KRW41m depending on the variant and equipment levels.

It will also go on sale in some export markets from the second half of 2021.
