
Opel’s Rüsselsheim plant has built its 750,000th Insignia since the nameplate replaced the Vectra in 2008.
The 750,000th car was a blue OPC Sports Tourer (wagon).
Early versions badged Regal were built for Buick before all NAFTA production was centred in Oshawa in Canada from 2011. The Buick model is also made by the GM-SAIC joint venture in Shanghai.
There was a minor facelift in 2013 and, last year, Opel sold over 100,000 Insignias – an increase of around 19%.
The line is popular in UK, Germany and Spain and achieved the largest percentage growth in the mid-size segment in Europe.
Later this year, the OPC sedan will be exported to Australia and New Zealand as the Holden Insignia VXR. An additional variant – the Cascada convertible – will be produced in Rüsselsheim later this decade and will be sold as a new Buick model in the US from 2016.
