General Motors of Canada said it would spend C$560m to ready its CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario to make the next generation Chevrolet Equinox.
The automaker will spend $190m directly at the plant on manufacturing equipment and tools and $370m on vendor tooling at Canadian supppliers.

The move came after recent concerns over the future of GM’s Oshawa plant, also in Ontario but does not address those directly.
Steve Carlisle, president and managing director of GM Canada, said: “These investments, which follow planning and study with our partners, are a further vote of confidence in our employees, our business and our future in Ontario and Canada.”
GM previously announced a $250m spend on a new body shop and flexible manufacturing equipment and tooling, converting the factory for future vehicle production. The conversion plan was first announced in March 2013 following a detailed evaluation process.
