PSA Peugeot Citroën says it has assigned a new production module to the Trémery plant in north-eastern France to meet “buoyant” demand for its EB Turbo PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine.

The modular, three-cylinder engine which is fitted on the Peugeot 208, 308, 2008 and 3008, the Citroën C3, C4, C4 Cactus and C4 Picasso and also the DS 3 and DS 4, cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, maintains the French manufacturer, by an average 18% compared with the naturally aspirated EP Prince engine.

PSA adds its average emissions were 110.3 g/km in 2014, with The Group using its engineering to push fuel consumption down to as low as 4l/100km (95g CO2/km) for the EB Turbo PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine and to 3l/100km for the Blue HDi diesel.

The Trémery plant reached a milestone in January this year, by producing its 40 millionth engine and the Trémery-Metz industrial facility recently became the Group’s leading mechanical components plant by manufacturing 1,577,000 engines and 893,000 gearboxes in 2014.

PSA Peugeot Citroën is also the number one employer in north-eastern France, where it represents 5,300 direct jobs and around 15,000 indirect jobs.

“This 200,000 unit production module was assigned as a result of our more flexible manufacturing system and the work done at Trémery to meet competitiveness targets across the value chain,” said PSA EVP director Supply Chain & Manufacturing, Yann Vincent.

“We are still actively rolling out our Excellent Plant project, which aims to bring our industrial facilities into line with the very highest global standards.”
