Following an earlier announcement of intent, Continental has now acquired GKN’s 50% stake in their joint venture Emitec Emission Control Technologies.

Following the purchase, Emitec has been merged with the Continental powertrain division’s fuel supply unit to form a new fuel and exhaust management unit, ET Auto.com reported.

Unit chief Markus Distelhoff said: “Our global production sites provide excellent expansion opportunities for Emitec’s current products. Emitec, on the other hand, is strongly represented in the commercial vehicle and two wheeler sector, which can help us gain access to new market segments. The two wheeler market in India, for example, offers tremendous opportunities for our new business unit.”

After Emitec’s acquisition, Continental’s range of exhaust gas aftertreatment systems include particle filters, metallic catalyst substrates and dosing modules for selective catalytic reduction.
