This is the first fully electric vehicle to be launched in the country under the Chevrolet brand and follows the recently launched Buick Velite 6 EV and Baojun E-series. All are produced in China at the US automaker’s local joint ventures.

The Menlo will be sold initially only in Beijing and will be available in four variants from CNY159,900 to CNY179,900 (US$22,745-US$25,590) after national subsidies for new energy vehicles.

Scott Lawson, general director of Chevrolet at SAIC-GM, said the Menlo “meets the performance and styling demands of our customers while providing the efficiency that new energy vehicle owners expect”.

The Menlo, based on the Chevrolet FNR-X all-purpose sports concept vehicle, has a constant speed range of 410km as set out by the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) conditions on a single charge.

It features a stylish multi layer centre console with a 10 inch centre LCD control touchscreen and an eight inch full colour TFT LCD instrument panel.
