Germany’s IAA show is to move to Munich from Frankfurt in 2021 after the VDA said the event would transition from an automotive to a mobility platform.
“Munich has prevailed over Berlin and Hamburg,” said VDA president, Hildegard Müller through a basic translation service. “The three cities shortlisted as the venue have all presented highly ambitious and convincing plans to further develop the IAA together with the VDA.”

“It was a very close race, for which I thank the participants warmly.”
Part of the Bavarian capital’s attraction for the VDA also appears to be the venue’s proximity to the city centre, with priority tracks for environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The VDA noted Munich had been pursuing the development of a ‘smart city’ in almost all areas of daily life for several years, with a focus on sustainable mobility solutions.
