US website The Car Connection (TCC) says that Cadillac will launch a new generation of high-performance cars early next year, starting with a 400-horsepower version of its new CTS sedan that uses a modified version of the LS6 engine used in the top Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

The sporty Caddy programme is tentatively named CTSi, TCC says, and a well-placed, senior GM source has told the website that “the goal is to beat the (BMW) M5 in every turn”.

The first CTSi model will go on sale about a year from now, TCC says, citing GM insiders.

TCC says the LS6-based V-8 will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission, significant enhancements to the suspension are planned and the performance version should also be the first to get an upgraded interior to counter criticism of the CTS’s ‘plasticky’ cabin.

TCC adds that Cadillac hopes to produce performance versions of most, if not all, of its various car and truck models with the next upgraded car likely to be the new Seville.
