The Excelle, based on GM-Daewoo’s redesigned Lacetti [Nubira for export] model launched last November, is lightly restyled for China and fits nicely into the GM Shanghai model line above the previous generation Opel Corsa-based Buick Sail and below the GM North America-designed GL8 minivan and Regal sedan.

The Excelle has similar drivetrain choices to the Daewoo Lacetti – either a 1.6 litre petrol engine with manual transmission priced at RMB149,800 ($US18,000) or an up-market 1.8 litre version with automatic transmission that will cost RMB179,800 ($21,660).

Access Asia said Shanghai GM would target the Excelle at business and family users though analysts believe at these prices it will largely be purchased by the corporate market.

Certainly the top version has a lot of extras for a Chinese car including sunroof, leather seats and an umbrella slot, Access Asia noted.
