Daimler Trucks said An Post was the first postal service provider in the world to attain zero carbon emission delivery status within a capital city.

“The eCanter is an integral part of our customer’s effort to reduce carbon emissions and in striving towards cleaner air quality in Ireland.”

The eCanter was launched in October 2017 and achieved the initial sales target of 150 units in about two years.

More deliveries in Europe, Japan and the US will follow.

So far, the global fleet has travelled 1.6m km (1m miles) driven locally emission free in customer operations.

With a range of 100km (60 miles), the 7.49 tonne vehicle meets the inner city short range distribution requirements of its customers.

The electric drive system comprises a motor (129 kW; 390 Nm) and six high voltage (420V/13.8 kWh) lithium-ion battery packs.

At quick charging stations, the vehicle takes approximately 90 minutes to recharge fully.
