Padilla was quoted by the US-based website The Car Connection (TCC) as saying his goal was to bring incentives down to half the peak levels of recent months. But Padilla told the website he could not predict how soon that would happen.
Since last autumn, US rebates and other incentives offered on new cars and light trucks have been as high as 20 percent of retail prices and are still only a few points below that, TCC said.
