Horiba – which claims to be a world leader in automotive test systems – has finalised the purchase of the global advanced vehicle engineering, research and product testing business operated by MIRA (once Motor Industry Resarch Association) based in the UK.
The move takes the Japanese company into vehicle engineering and testing consultancy. It was founded in the early 1950s as a manufacturer of precision instruments for measurement and analysis including auto exhaust gas and other applications and has since expanded worldwide. Subsiduaries include German company Schenck Development Test Systems which took it into engine and driveline testing tools, including brake testing and wind tunnel balances.

HORIBA MIRA, as the company is now called, alows its new “to address the emerging areas of next generation mobility including electrified powertrain, intelligent vehicles and vehicle attributes technologies”, according to a statement
“The sale will allow MIRA to continue with its ambitious plans for growth by building on its unparalleled reputation in vehicle R&D, engineering and testing. The sale will also allow MIRA to invest in its current facilities and enhance its capabilities on a global scale.”
