“From 21 April 21, the production activity at Zalau Anvelope has been resumed gradually. The necessary sanitary measures have been set in place, in line with current legislation and internal regulations, our priority being to protect the health and safety of our employees,” Michelin officials said, according to Ziarul Financiar, cited by Romania Insider.

The Michelin plant at Floresti, north of Bucharest, remains closed for now, except for “certain critical activities that require continuity, which have a specific programme”, according to the reports.

Zalau produces tyres for trucks, industrial vehicles, and subway trains.

It’s the second tyre factory in Romania to resume its activity, after that of Continental in Timisoara. The Pirelli factory in Slatina remains closed.

Zalau’s cord operation, which employs 350 people, is a strategic unit for the group, which likely explains why it restarted first, to supply other factories in the group.

Michelin started operations in Romania in 2001 and currently employs 3,800 in three factories, a commercial network and an ‘excellence centre’.
