Nissan said it was extending production downtime for most of its manufacturing facilities in the US indefinitely.
"The company will continue to evaluate the status of the COVID-19 pandemic, current market demand and supplier readiness before setting a restart date," it said in a statement.

Production at Nissan's three US plants has been suspended since 20 March in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
A week ago the automaker announced an extension of its "temporary adjustment to production" in Thailand in response to the continuing COVID-19 outbreak and decreased auto demand.
The suspension of production at Plant 2 in Samut Prakan was extended from 4 May until 31 May 2020, while production at Plant 1 in Samut Prakan would continue to be adjusted to meet current demand levels.
Adjustments would also be made at associated operations, including engine assembly and stamping.
