"The UK economy is benefiting from the revitalisation of the Jaguar brand and expanding product line-up with new multi-billion-pound supplier contract awards and significant investment in advanced manufacturing facilities," the automaker said.

The additional GBP120m for F-Pace takes the total amount spent on Solihull’s ‘factory within a factory’ to GBP620m – the largest investment in the 70 year history of the Midlands plant.

Of the GBP13bn of UK supplier contracts, GBP5bn was for the F-Pace.

Speaking in Frankfurt, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth said: “We are pushing the boundaries in design, engineering and manufacturing to deliver outstanding cars. Our investment in the development of the F-Pace; its industry leading architecture and the UK plants which support its manufacture provides a clear signal that Jaguar Land Rover is committed to Britain and advancing the skills and capability of the industry”.

The SUV is JLR's latest product to use the Ingenium I4 diesel engine made at the company’s GBP500m Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton which celebrates its first anniversary next month.

At the Castle Bromwich plant, a GBP400m spend included a new line which produces blank sheets of aluminium used for F-Pace body panels making it the claimed most aluminium intensive product (80%+) in its class.
