Japan’s Futaba Industrial Co. Ltd. has purchased land in Stratford, Ontario, for a new plant to make Toyota car parts.

Plant manager-designate Kiyoshi Hina told the local Beacon Herald newspaper that the company will invest $US20 million in the plant which will employ about 70.


Futaba plans to make 33 hard stamped components at Stratford for Toyota’s Canadian-built Lexus RX300 SUV which is destined for North American markets. Production of the first Lexus model to be built outside Japan starts at Toyota’s Cambridge, Ontario, assembly plant next year.


Futaba expects to begin stampings production in September 2003.


Hina said Futaba is also pitching for a contract to produce Toyota Corolla parts in 2006.
