Around 300 temporary workers at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant protested at the weekend, demanding wage hikes similar to those given to permanent workers. Following the protests, the plant was closed yesterday (27 September).

A [company] source told ET Auto.com: “The second shift was normal on Saturday. We have already assured them [we will] look into their concerns.”

The automaker signed a wage agreement with permanent workers on 24 September. Under the agreement, each worker will get an average salary hike of around INR16,800 (US$253) per month. Of this amount, INR8,400 will be given in the first year and INR4,200 each in the following two years.
