Radioplayer, a non-profit radio platform backed by major broadcasters around the world, has been chosen as a launch partner for Geely Automotive’s Volvo Cars’ Polestar 2 which has the first infotainment system powered by the Android Automotive operating system.
Working with Google, Radioplayer was one of the first organisations to develop an Android Automotive version of its radio app which will be recommended to drivers of vehicles sold in select countries via a ‘Playout Auto Install’ process.

This is available only to a handful of partner apps, pre-selected by Google and Polestar.
The Radioplayer Android Automotive app offers live stations and on-demand/podcast shows from thousands of broadcasters, with recommendations, voice search and now playing information.
The Polestar 2 is being launched from July, including in the UK, Germany, Belgium and Norway. Google, Volvo and Polestar are co-ordinating with Radioplayer representatives in these countries.
The development of Android Automotive compatible versions of mobile apps is the first step for Radioplayer in ensuring hybrid capability (merging broadcast radio (FM, DAB) with online streams, logos, podcasts, and rich visuals) for all apps in Android Automotive.

By GlobalDataSeparately, Bauer Media Audio announced it was available at launch on car infotainment systems powered by Android in the Polestar 2, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge later this year.
Bauer’s radio listening apps will be available through Google Play to car owners in the UK, Sweden and Norway. Built-in Google media apps and services will allow drivers and passengers to enjoy radio, podcasts, audiobooks and music.
