Hungariy’s Raba Motor Gyarto Kft in Gyor, northwestern Hungary, plans to bring Russian Kamaz trucks back to the local market after signing a contract with the Russian vehicle maker and Hungarian truck distributor Eurotrade Kft, the Hungarian News Digest reported.

The Hungarian company will equip the Russian truck with its own 10-litre turbodiesel engine and a German-made 16-speed gearbox. The 20 tonne truck will be 30% less expensive than similar models made in western Europe.


The new KAMAZ-Raba truck will be exported to Romania, Poland and Serbia and Montenegro and Eurotrade expects to sell between 20 and 30 in Hungary by the end of 2003 and some 150 units in 2004.


The company has recently opened new distributor offices in Budapest and Eger, northeastern Hungary, and plans to invest 700 mln Hungarian forints ($US2.9 million/€2.7 million) in its base in Komarom, northwestern Hungary, the report said.
