Volkswagen AG said on Friday that it would recall 6,800 of its [new next generation Golf-based] Touran minivans sold in Germany to replace parts that may cause a short circuit in the vehicle’s ventilation system, Dow Jones reported, adding that Europe’s largest car maker said it would inform customers next week.

New cooling parts have been used in production since mid-May, the company reportedly said.
Dow Jones noted that the Touran, which was launched in March, is one of Volkswagen’s key hopes to spur sales and added that the company’s western European sales in January-May fell 5.5% compared with a year ago while the overall market slumped 3.8% over the same period.
Volkswagen is suffering more than many of its competitors as it struggles with an aging model line up in the midst of a market-wide downturn, Dow Jones added.
