Akebono Corporation has completed construction of its Springfield, Kentucky, brake components manufacturing facility and expects to begin limited operations next month.

The opening of the Springfield facility, which will produce aftermarket brake pads and components for a number of vehicle manufacturers, increases the number of Akebono manufacturing plants in Kentucky to four, with the others in Glasgow, Munfordville and a joint venture in Elizabethtown.
Combined, these plants feature nearly one million square feet of manufacturing space. When the Springfield plant reaches full operational capacity in 2005, Akebono will employ approximately 1,700 people in the state.
