Opel management and the Works Council have reached an agreement in the arbitration board to overcome overcapacity in the Russelsheim engineering centre, concerning 2,000 posts.

The parties agreed to re-start the voluntary separation programme Pace for R&D employees – including early retirement.

At the same time, Opel and Segula Technologies confirm their partnership to secure jobs in the research and development sector in Russelsheim and Dudenhofen for the long term. In total, 2,000 positions at Opel are affected.

PSA reiterated its Russelsheim Engineering Centre is and will remain at the core of the company’s R&D and will be at the right competitive level to continue the handling of design and engineering of future Opel/Vauxhall models.

In addition, the Russelsheim Engineering Centre is in charge of global tasks for Groupe PSA, such as development of light commercial vehicles, a new engine family and the 15 Centres of Competence for fields such as fuel cell development.

Opel and the Works Council also came to an agreement concerning the permanent employment of apprentices from the period, summer, 2018 to winter, 2019.
