The number of both new and used passenger cars registered in Romania in the first quarter (Q1) of the year slipped 2.1% year on year to 146,144 units, according to Driving License and Vehicle Registration Department (DRPCIV) data quoted by local Agerpres and reported by romania-insider.com.
But sales of new cars were up 35% to 35,836 as used car sales fell 8.6% to 110,308.

Local Renault owned brand Dacia brand topped the new car market with 12,079 units, up 56.7% year-on-year, taking about a third of sales.
Volkswagen was most popular used car brand with 27,205 units (off 12.3% versus Q1, 2018), followed by Opel (10,367 units, -23.4%) and Ford (9.191 units, -17.7%).
Romania's national fleet reached almost 8.2m units at the end of 2018, up 7.3% over the previous year, according to DPRCIV data published in mid-March.
West European car registrations fell 3.7% year-on-year (YoY) in March according to data released earlier this week by LMC Automotive.
The selling rate was also down, at 14.1m units a year in March, from 14.9m units a year in February.
