Ford has said a shift in production at a Michigan plant to trucks from less profitable cars would lead to a $1bn-plus boost to its operating profit.
According to Reuters, Ford said the increase in earnings, before interest and taxes (EBIT), in 2021 compared with 2017 would occur due to the shift at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, from C-Max hybrids and Focus cars to the Ranger mid-sized pickup truck and Bronco SUV.

The Ranger, on sale for years outside North America after being dropped from that market, returned in January and the Bronco nameplate – made famous by OJ Simpson’s mid 90s LA freeway police chase – would be revived next year.
Reuters noted the information was disclosed in slides prepared for a presentation that Ford vice president of enterprise product line management, Jim Baumbick, made at a Bank of America Merrill Lynch conference in New York on Wednesday (17 April).
