Tata Motors’ Jaguar Land Rover is now offering its inline six, three-litre 400PS Ingenium petrol engine in the flagship Range Rover with a mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) powertrain.

The P400 MHEV option was first offered for the Range Rover Sport and has, JLR said, “been well received by UK customers so we anticipate a welcome reception to this addition to the Range Rover range of vehicles”.

The engine delivers 550Nm of torque and allows 0-60mph acceleration in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.

The engine has an electric supercharger that delivers immediate boost by spooling in 0.5s up to 65,000rpm, giving torque response comparable with engines with much bigger displacement.

This is due to optimal coordination between electric supercharger and twin-scroll turbocharger which JLR claims virtually eliminates turbo lag.

The MHEV powertrain achieves fuel economy of 30.4mpg (9.3l/100km) and CO2 emissions of 212g/km (NEDC equivalent combined).

It is the latest step taken by JLR to ensure it offers an electrified option on all new models from 2020.

Based around a new start-stop system, the latest three-litre engine is paired with an electric motor that can harvest energy through deceleration and store it in a 48V battery. This energy can then be redeployed through torque-assist, reducing CO2 emissions and the work load on the engine.

Along with the engine update come new two new grey and blue colours and a new optional 22in gloss black wheel.

Updated headlights include Sign Post Dimming which identifies road signs and turns off the individual LEDs that could reflect back and cause glare for the driver. Tourist Mode has also been added to the pixel system, allowing a driver to select whether they are driving on the left or right-hand side of the road and adjusting the beam pattern accordingly.

Connectivity has been enhanced with the addition of a new standard Smartphone Pack with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
