According to a Business Daily Update (BDU) report Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd (21% owned by GM and maker of Subaru brand cars) is considering using its partner’s car assembly plant in China to make Subaru cars.

Fuji Heavy president Kyoji Takenaka told BDU, “We are doing feasibility studies with GM.” He added: “There are possibilities for us in China other than exporting assembled cars there, but it’s inconceivable other than through the GM alliance.”
Takenaka said the partners discussed joint studies on China for the first time at a regular alliance meeting at the beginning of this month, when company executives including General Motors chief executive officer Rick Wagoner met in Japan.
The report added that Takenaka said Fuji Heavy would sell vehicles such as the Legacy, Forester and Impreza in China. The company has no plans to develop a new model especially for China.
